The city of Las Vegas is well known as the gambling capital of the world – but what does it have to offer those who prefer not to risk their savings at the blackjack tables and roulette wheels? The answer is loads!

Las Vegas isn’t just about the Casinos – this is a city that built itself on its reputation as the place to go if you want to be entertained – and entertain it truly does.

Sightseeing on the Strip

While you may not want to frequent the Casino gambling floors, these great centres have a lot more to offer than just the chance to play your chips – head for the strip and drink in the sights offered by the stunning Casino complexes such as the Bellagio –where the dancing fountains are a big draw, the Mirage, where the volcano threatens to erupt daily or the Luxor – complete with its replica pyramid. Head for the Venetian and experience a little slice of Italy – complete with indoor gondola rides.

Las Vegas Shows and Attractions

Day or night, in Las Vegas there is always a show to be seen. Families might want to take in the spectacle at Circus Circus – home to the biggest permanent indoor circus on earth, while music fans might get the chance to catch living legend Sir Elton John performing live. Magic abounds in Vegas, with great offerings from the likes of Penn and Teller and David Copperfield, while for sheer entertainment value it is hard to beat the traditional Las Vegas showgirls with all their glitz and glamour.

Other attractions on offer in the city include the Madame Tussauds wax museum at The Venetian or the Shark Reef aquarium at the Mandalay bay. For thrill seekers the city offers an amazing selection of roller coaster rides – including those at the top of the Stratosphere as well as offerings from Circus Circus (home to the world’s only indoor flume) and New York, New York – whose Manhattan Express is the longest lasting ride in the city.

Day Trips for Las Vegas

If the bright lights of the city become too much for you, then it might be time to take advantage of one of the cheap car rentals on offer in the and head out to explore the surrounding area.

The breathtaking Hoover Dam is just a short hop from the downtown area if you have transport, while the Red Rock Canyon also offers an exciting change of scene. Consider packing a picnic and heading for nearby Lake Mead, or why not take a tour at the Ethel M factory (home to Mars Bars and M&Ms) which is also home to an enticing botanical and cactus garden allowing you the opportunity to walk off any tasting indulgences!

Eating Out in Vegas

If you love your food, then this city won’t disappoint. Try one of the amazing all you can eat buffers, or dine on streak at amazing low prices in restaurants across downtown. International and ethnic restaurants are also in plentiful supply.

That’s why the glorious Sands Hotel famous for the rat pack days of Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra was flattened to the ground and replaced by the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in 1997.

Themed on Venice Italy it was only two years later the resort opened on May 3, 1999 with white doves, trumpets and singing gondoliers that the Venetian Chairman and Owner, Sheldon G. Adelson with actress Sophia Loren christened the very first motorized gondola . The resort was reputedly built at a cost of $1.5 billion ( cheap by todays standards ) and was one of the most expensive resorts of its kind ever constructed when it opened.

Situated between Harrah’s and The Palazzo on the prestigious Las Vegas Strip , Las Vegas NV, The Venetian is (along with resorts Convention Center and upmarket Palazzo Hotel ) the largest five star hotel in the world with 4,049 suites, 4,059 hotel rooms, and a 120,000-square-foot casino

This hotel features a life-like replica tower of St Mark’s Campanile in Venice, Italy , a vast array of shopping areas , restaurants, bars and theatres as well as a fourth floor Venice canal complete with gondoliers that has to be seen to believed.

Room rates fluctuate from day to day and season to season but start at less than $100 a night for a basic room but rise to well over $10,000 a night in the high roller suites of the themed farmhouse chianti styled villas reserved for whales.

Planning your next vacation? Here 3 very different, yet equally enticing, suggestions for a holiday you will always remember.

Craving some action? There’s no better place for glitz, glamour, and gambling than Las Vegas. The main attraction in Vegas (other than the strip which is chock-a-block full of hotels and casinos) is the people. Keep an eye out for bachelor parties and newlyweds who have literally just been married by an Elvis impersonator, and you will probably even spot an Elvis impersonator or two yourself.

Not the gambling type? Head to Milan’s Santa Maria delle Grazie church to view Da Vinci’s Last Supper for yourself. There is something unforgettable about witnessing the world-renowned Last Supper painting in its authenticity. However, tickets for the Last Supper are not unlimited and with the publication of Dan Brown’s best-seller, The Da Vinci Code, in 2003, there is now increasing desire for Last Supper tickets. It is a good idea to buy Last Supper tickets beforehand to avoid disappointment.

If you’ve never been to Rome, you’re missing out on one of the most famous, historically rich, significant places in the world. Not only is Rome home to ancient buildings like San Pietro Basilica and the Colosseum, it is also a very modern city. In one visit to Rome, you can uncover thousands of years of history on a crypts and catacombs tour and take a tour based on Dan Brown’s bestseller, Angels and Demons. Rome hop on hop off bus tours offer a full tour of Rome, allowing you to get off the bus at your leisure to further explore the attractions at any of the over 15 stops. One thing is certain: there are tons of sights to see in Rome and a hop on hop off Rome bus tour will ensure that you get a glimpse of all of Rome’s highlights.

If you want to get a head get a hat one smart cookie said some while ago and the same can be said advertising your restaurant with one of the new types of new eye-catching LED open signs. Signs today are far more than just an indication of you name and what you do they actually draw customers into your shop or business , and no where more so than in Las Vegas , the city of neon.

For years most shop keepers had the tradition open or closed sign on their doors and would just turn it around first thing in the morning and last thing at night. More recently the sliding open / closed sign became more common with a fixed panel below displaying opening hours and types od credit card taken.

As things moved on today’s open signs say a lot more. Scrolling LED text is used to inform customers on special offers , waiting times and to offer directions to particular areas with the store or business. These signs can be wired remotely to computers and updated at a whim over the internet to give up to date information on details such as price changes or stock availability.

Of course even in today up-to-date world the top selling neon open signs are the retro products we all know so well from the 1950 rock and roll era. Its strange than not matter how much the world moves on classic style item seem to stay with us.
